Untitled

Project type

Textile sculpture

Date

2012

This work marks the first appearance of the human figure at life-size in my felt constructions. Created for the Contemporary Textile Art exhibition (2012) at the National Museum of Fine Arts, organised by the Chile Crea Textil Association, it introduces a central concern in my practice: the human figure as a site of transformation.

Its origin lies in a recurring image: a clipping from ‘Icarito’ (educational supplement of a Chilean newspaper), depicting a human figure in a fetal position within a spermatozoon. This image, which has reappeared throughout my practice, unfolds as a metaphor for transformation and change throughout life. The fetal position, in turn, evokes protection, a primal refuge, and reinforces this central idea.
