Roots and Wings
Project type
Basketry and felt
Date
2025
'Roots and Wings’ represents Alzheimer's disease through animal and vegetal fibers, exploring the tension between the loss of memories and the construction of identity and personal history. The roots trace the persistence of memory and the grounding of history, while the birds' wings evoke the gradual dissolution of remembrance, shaping a visual dialogue between what remains and what inevitably fades away.
The sculpture was created at a 1:1 scale using textile techniques that combine felting and basketry. The internal structure of the face and birds was woven in ñocha (vegetal fiber), serving as a support for the subsequent application of felt, which models and defines the surface. The colour was created by layering delicate fleece in different tones, generating subtle nuances and expressive depth in the work.
