Colour Study

This work was created to represent my paternal grandfather, whom I never had the opportunity to meet.

The piece begins with a black-and-white photograph of his identity card, the only visual record I have of him. From this image, I attempt to reconstruct his face.

In this process, skin becomes a territory of exploration. Through fiber dyeing, I transfer pictorial principles to textiles, imitating the palette used to represent skin in painting and layering thin layers of colour to both represent and construct a mental image.
